Your photos

When you upload a photo, your browser resizes it locally and sends it to OpenAI to generate your card (on the compare page, to Google as well, since that page races two engines). We do not save that uploaded photo on our own servers - it lives only in your browser session and is cleared when you start over or close the tab. Neither provider uses API inputs to train models; OpenAI deletes them within 30 days per its data policy. A finished card sits on our storage for about ten minutes so a dropped connection can still deliver it, then it is gone.

Email

When you ask us to email a card, unlock an early-access theme, email a gift to yourself, or create a gift link, we send that email to the address you give us through Resend, our email provider, and the address joins our list: the occasional email about new themes, never a flood. The buttons and the line under each one say so.

Leaving is one reply: write stop to any email we send and we take you off, or write to us and we remove you right away. We never sell, rent, or share your address with anyone. Prefer just the card and nothing else? Save it to your device; saving never asks for an email.

What we keep: your email address, which button you used, and the first name or short text you typed for the card, in our records on Airtable; and, for the list only, a copy of the address with the date you joined, the page you joined from, and whether you asked for the emails, held at Resend so the unsubscribe works. No mailing address, no payment details, nothing else. Want it gone? Ask us and we will delete it in both places.

The card you email stays in Resend's system for up to 30 days as part of your sent-email record and is then deleted.

Your finished card

Your finished card comes back to your browser, and that is where it lives. So that a card is not lost when a phone drops its connection during the wait, we also keep the finished picture for a few minutes under a random code that is never shown or linked anywhere, and only your own screen can ask for it. It is deleted the moment your screen fetches it, and otherwise within about an hour. The only times we keep a card longer are the ones you choose: a shareable link or a gift page, described below.

Shareable card links

If you make a shareable link for a card, we store the finished artwork so the page at the link has something to show: the card image, the first name on it, and the message you typed. Nothing else goes with them - your email address is never stored on that page or in its address.

These links are unlisted, not private. The address has a random code in it, so nobody can guess their way to your card, and the page tells search engines not to index it. But anyone you send the link to can open it, and can forward it. Treat it the way you would treat any link you text someone.

You can delete a shared card yourself: the page and the panel where you made the link both have a delete option, visible only in the browser that made the card. Deleting removes the card and its page; the link can keep working for a minute or two while the change spreads, then it stops resolving. If you lost that browser or want a card gone for any reason, email hello@birthday-cards.ai with the link and it goes.

Gift pages work the same way with a few differences. A gift page stores the card image, the first name on it, the card message, and the personal note you wrote when you made it. The page is unlisted and told to stay out of search engines, but anyone with the link can open it and forward it. The link works for one year, then the page retires on its own. The email address you give when you create a gift link is used to send the link back to you so you cannot lose it, and is kept in our records; it never appears on the gift page. The email we send you when you create a gift link carries a removal link that takes the gift page down at once; you can also email hello@birthday-cards.ai with the link and it goes.

Cookies, analytics, and browser storage

We do not use cookies - no tracking cookies, no advertising cookies, none. For analytics we use Vercel Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without collecting anything that personally identifies you.

Some of what we keep never leaves your browser, on your device: your email address, so you do not have to retype it next time; briefly, your card image while you move between pages; and a few small flags: whether you joined the list, a dismissed banner, the page you arrived from during this visit, and a private key that lets this browser delete or re-send what it made. None of these is a cookie, none is used to track you across the web, and all of them stay on your device.

Terms of use

Cards generated through this site are for personal use - giving to friends, family, or printing for yourself. Please do not upload photos of people who haven't agreed to have their image used. Please do not use the site to generate cards that include hateful, sexual, or otherwise harmful content; the providers' content policies (OpenAI's, and Google's on the compare page) apply to every generation.

The site is provided as-is. We do our best to keep it working but cannot guarantee uptime or that any individual generation will succeed.
